Countrywide Conflict Displacement The total number of individuals displaced by conflict in 2016 reduced to 660,569, as joint assessment teams finalise assessments of those displaced last year. This remains the highest number on record, and a 40 per cent increase on last year’s high of around 470,000. In 2017 so far, 50,017 individuals have been verified as displaced, with 22 provinces recording some level of forced displacement. Northern/North Eastern: Sporadic fighting continued in most parts of Sar-e-Pul as well as in Pashtunkot and Almar districts in Faryab; no displacements have yet been reported. Recent clashes between NSAGs and ANSF displaced 1,862 individuals from Dasht-e-Archi district of Kunduz to Taluqan city, Takhar; assessments are planned for next week. In 2017 so far, 9,710 verified IDPs have been displaced from the region; approximately 19 per cent of the country total. Southern: Conflict continued across Hilmand, Kandahar and Uruzgan provinces, with Shah Mansoor in Tirinkot particularly affected by a consecutive week of heavy clashes between ANSF and NSAGs. Assessment teams have so far verified 8,232 IDPs as in need of assistance. In Nimroz, 1,330 flood-affected individuals have been identified following the breaking of the banks of the Khasrod river. In 2017 so far, 24,922 verified IDPs have been displaced from the region; approximately half of the country total. Western: Fighting intensified in Farah and Badghis provinces during the week with an NSAG attack near a health facility in Badghis resulting in the loss of some medical supplies and causing minor damage to the building. Assessments of IDPs reported to have arrived in Hirat from Hilmand, Baghlan, Badghis were completed with 126 IDPs verified as in need of humanitarian assistance. Also, 140 IDPs were verified in Qala-e Naw city, Badghis and 35 IDPs in Dawlatyar, Ghor. Eastern: Cross border shelling and artillery fire continued in Khas Kunar and Sirkany in Kunar, and Mohmandara, Lal Pur and Nazyan in Nangarhar. ANSF operations supported by international military airstrikes also took place in Nangarhar. No displacements have yet been reported. Central: Intensified clearing operations in north eastern Baghlan reportedly displaced 239 people to Kabul, while clashes between ANSF and NSAGs in Gilan, Qarabagh and Muqur districts of Ghazni displaced 3,500 individuals.
